The Ijazah is a formal certification that authorizes its holder to recite and teach the Holy Qurâan with Tajweed. Its purpose is to preserve the authenticity of Qurâanic transmission by establishing a chain of approved scholars and reciters that goes back to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), the original source of the Qurâan.
The word Ijazah in Arabic means permission, authorization, or license. In the Islamic scholarly tradition, it refers specifically to the authorization to narrate and teach sacred textsâparticularly the Qurâanâbased on direct transmission from a qualified teacher.
Ijazah in Qurâan Recitation with Tajweed
Ijazah in Qurâan Memorization (Hifz)
An Ijazah serves as formal recognition from a certified teacher that the student has mastered the Qurâan either through recitation or memorization. It confirms that the student has received the knowledge word by word, adhering to proper Tajweed and traditional transmission, and is now permitted to teach and pass it on to others.
At Basair Academy, we offer an Online Ijazah Program through live, one-on-one classes. Our experienced and native Arabic-speaking teachersâboth male and femaleâguide students through the process of mastering Qurâanic recitation or memorization with Tajweed.
đź For Recitation with Tajweed:
The student must complete a full recitation of the Qurâan from the Mushaf, applying the correct Tajweed rules throughout.
đ§ For Memorization (Hifz):
The student must memorize the entire Qurâan and recite it from memory to their teacher accurately.
We offer a free evaluation session for all students to assess their level in recitation, Tajweed, and/or memorization before beginning the course.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive an official Ijazah certificate recognized by their teacher’s chain of transmission (Sanad), linking them back to the Prophet (peace be upon him).
